How does this letter-form communicate its location?
The Walcot Fruit and Potato Stores ghost sign looks worn but still very clear. It’s role was simply to advertise what the store specialised in, but you can see from the typefaces used that as well as being functional (the main part of the sign) the owners wanted to give off a certain flare (seen in the design of the ‘the’, perhaps to fit in with the surrounding city. It looks like the sign has been stencilled, but in way that makes the letters look 3d and intricate, with outlines and shadows.
