How does this letter-form communicate its location?

Thrissur was known by its anglicised name Trichur until 1990, when the government decided to replace it with its Malayalam name which is thrissur. So the signboard has be changed to thrissur. In 1975, the Department of Archaeology purchased a building at Chembukavu in Thrissur City and the archaeological and Picture Gallery were shifted to the new building in 1975 and named it as Archaeological Museum, Thrissur. Now this signboard is not seen or cannot found anywhere as i got this image from a some website in the net.I have not visited the place but this damaged or destroyed sign has a meaning and a history which is still restored because of this single image. The letter are made of wood and being nailed to a wooden board. The letter ā€Sā€ is placed very interestingly. It is placed right under nailed portion of base wooden board. The letter ā€Oā€ is in different angle. The letterforms are sans serif typeface in bold.
