How does this letter-form communicate its location?
The typeface is weathered and some of the letters aren't complete but they look embossed and painted over stone by hand. I like that some of the letters form shapes depending on the letter above or below, for example the R from Irchester merging with the k below it. The serifs on the Es and Ts are distinctive again and I think that the typeface had been considered in the village because of this. The Co-operative Hall was built only 5 years after the Working Mens Club but use the same style lettering, which I hadn't noticed before because one is carved and the other has been painted. The decorative embellishments around the lettering also add more character to the sign and embodies a sense of fun and less formal and authorities than the lettering used for the Library for example.
