How does this letter-form communicate its location?

This is an example of the town's usage of a Caslon style font to show something historical. It is used a lot here and there to evoke an old-world feel, usually in conjunction with old ships, nautical themes and pirates. Whilst it is used almost as a novelty font, I do quite like the lettering, and the consistent use of it means you know when something is being portrayed as a tourist attraction or event. It fits in with the historical and heritage character of the town.
