How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Carrick-on-Shannon, as the name suggests, is built on the longest and biggest river in Ireland. In it’s early days it would have been a very important town for transporting goods. I took a stroll down by the river and began noticing the type on boats. The river has had a massive influence on the town over the years. Tourists rent boats in the town and arrive on boats from other towns. It was interesting to see the varied, quirky letterforms that names the boats. The boating trade in the town has definitely died down over the last few years and there are signs of this, not only with rusted boats, but with some interesting ghost typography.
