How does this letter-form communicate its location?

This sign has some historical association attached the the specific area. from the early 1930s the local area was a very industrial and in development area, it was also a very busy place and many travellers came to the seaside town, usually by car the local garage offering repairs and advertising the dominion motor spirit magazine available at this specific garage. The typography itself is aimed at the brand and how they advertised globally but this fitted in well with the local area which used the same style of typographic advertising, including the local theme park dreamland which used the same style on one of there buildings. The placement of the sign itself was very clever directly aimed at the holiday makers coming on from the train station.
