How does this letter-form communicate its location?

Coventry Canal Basin is situated right on the edge of the ring road which is what encapsulates the entire centre of the city. I find this as an interesting point to start at as I believe that its existence in this specific location presents the interesting combination of the historical elements of the industrial city with the new modern it is developing into. The typography on the bridge and entranceway I see as reflecting this idea. Using a Serif font that looks like Times or Baskerville, the historical and traditional pov of the canal is presented through the use of a more traditional and historical type style. It presents the idea of a formal and timeless style, yet the way the letters have been set in an arch also suggests and a new level of modernity.
