How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The weathering of this street sign suggests it may be of the oldest in the area. The fonts used look like fairly modern sans serif fonts. There is a lot of texture in the cracking paint which would suggest it was not painted recently. This use of font has stood the test of time and remains looking fairly modern. The people that took over the land in the 1900’s wanted the area to be alcohol free and so no pubs or bars were built in the area as the area was intended to be a good class residential district.
