How does this letter-form communicate its location?

A ‘newsagent’ sign located on the local high street. Its weathered and faded state speaks of the changing fortunes of the high street, with few people doing their shopping in the local area, but rather travelling into the centre of Durham, or indeed making use of online options. The effect of time and neglect has refashioned the original typeface into something new, incorporating the original sleek and condensed sans serif typeface with organic details and changes.
