How does this letter-form communicate its location?

I chose this hand painted garage sign as I liked the style of the typography and how they have painted this using a modern font style with block lettering. If you go up close there is a lot of texture across the sign from the mixtures of paint used. This sign was situated in an industrial area where many vans and lorries load. The sign looks like a stencil but is also hand painted.
