How does this letter-form communicate its location?

This image is of street signs of the restaurants of traditional chinese cuisine on one of the streets of Beijing. I believe it represents the identity of the location because it is a very popular typography style and design (red colors, calligraphy writing) of Chinese characters used in street signs. Chinese local restaurants are an important and huge part of the city landscape, a place where Chinese families spend their free time with family and friends. It is also noticeable that it is made in traditional Chinese style of calligraphy, using black and red colors, golden engraving and lanterns as decoration. This kind cultural location sign very often can be seen in any Chinese city.
