How does this letter-form communicate its location?

This plaque is displayed on the walls of the Cork Heritage Centre in Cobh Town Centre. The typeface is similar to Times New Roman, with the letters protruding out of the plaque. This information on the plaque is just used to inform and nothing more. I think this typeface informs the identity of Cobh by displaying its relationship to its past. The information is about the Port of Cork being used for Cruise terminals. The typeface is similar to the typeface that Cruise ships use to display their names on the side of the ships. This evidences the fact that Cobh’s identity is tied to being a Cruise terminal which is the Port of Cork.
