How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The lettering is typical for the era of end of Edwardian and early World War I. It is before the really decorative Victorian type would have been used. Equally consideration would have been for the material and technique for the carving into wood and stone. This lettering although painted over, you can still see the fancy swashes and distinctive serifs on the E’s and T’s and give the building and its surrounding a traditional stamp and instils a sense of tradition and history in the area, and it has a Transylvanian influence.
