How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Toronto is locally defined by its artisan community. Everyone is interested in the “local” movement. Locally grown, made, raised, printed, designed, sewn, support local, etc.. Even graffiti is now a local talent and if you’re really into it, you’ll search for the artists by their “tag” (graffiti name) and you can sometimes find them on instagram documenting their work and placement of it. Graffiti alley is just one main area of graffiti condensed. This stuff is everywhere, all over the city. Hand written is important here and does define the smaller local establishments. I feel it does define their business as original as well as handmade and they have a piece of the market in Toronto. An important factor in the city’s culture. My title is by hand x2, meaning I am choosing two types of handwritten art. The restaurant chalk letterforms and the graffiti. I would consider these as different “industries”.
