How does this letter-form communicate its location?

With two universities Coventry has become more populous with young people and the music venue, The Empire is where many will be found and are helping to further push the city onto the live music map. The venues name is branded on the front of the building in large black block letters. The typestyle appears to be sans-serif which is to be expected regarding the purpose of the font. I like the idea that due to it needing to be a standout and recognisable building, the type used helps to support this. The flat curvature that overarches the entire lettering is interesting as it can be argued to represent the definition of the word with the ideology of ruling over others. The general appearance is worn and tired which may reflect the almost dirtiness of a night out and the idea of the underground scene, however, in this instance, it also shows the progression in popularity the venue has in the city. This building is no longer in use as the Empire has moved to a more central location, so this building has been left as it stands as there are debates with what to do with it next.
