How does this letter-form communicate its location?

There is a certain natural beauty to the cracks and faded nature of the sign, rather like the ghost signs that I found close by on the wall act as reminders and testaments to a bygone era - so this acts as a monument perhaps to some of the first traders in the street. The lettering looks like it could have been almost worn by the sea air and heat of the tropics rather than the Reading smog. And the stamp of the phone number is an odd thing to have when its outside the shop but perhaps acts as a stark reminder that the numbers and not the names are what matter in this street.
