How does this letter-form communicate its location?

So this is the signage for the University of Macedonia, one of the best and biggest universities in Greece. The typography here is a bit obvious since this is the type widely used to point out our nationality. It is influenced by ancient Greek and it is somewhat globally recognized. I would like to point out that this kind of typography is used also by most of the Greeks living abroad, to style the fonts of their businesses mostly again to point out that this business is Greek. I keep seeing such shops in London and even here in East Sussex (see Fig. 21-23). In my opinion, this certain typeface is a bit outdated, however, I understand that this happens in order to enhance the Greek communities around the world and make the Greeks that live abroad to feel a bit like home.
