How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The last thing I found very interesting was the war memorial. I noticed that instead of being painted, it is carved, which makes the text much more durable to the weather and time. The Memorial was commissioned in 1919 and finished in 1920, 2 years after the end of the Great War. The memorial shows the names of all the men and women of Ealing who sacrificed their live during the war (Ealing, n.d). The entire memorial uses a thin Serif font, possibly due to it being easier to carve out or in order to fit all the names on the carving on the beige stone. The whole structure looks very majestic and is one of the first things one sees upon entering the front of Walpole park.
