How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Along with churches and public buildings affluent Victorian homes would feature stained glass windows and door inserts. They added character to a property and signified wealth and status. The large residential buildings across the city that began as houses several storeys high are now nearly all flats but retain the stained-glass features within hallways and doorframes. These images are from an old police fire station that later became a remand home for boys until the 1930s. The rise of slum landlords and property disrepair in the 1980s still resonates with dilapidated flats which nevertheless have beautiful stained glass catching the light.
