How does this letter-form communicate its location?
This sign is the most recent find on my typographic tour. In fact, it formed part of a wall mural being painted the day I discovered it! You can see the brush strokes clearly on a freshly plastered wall, forming part of the alleyway entry to Cobden Chambers. The typeface itself harks back to the type forms found on the historic Adams Building only a few short strides away (a former lace factory – built c1800). This is particularly visible in the D. In this way, it provides a contemporary interpretation (using colour and a layering effect) of the city’s historic industrial roots.
