How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Last module I visited Church Street for one of our workshop challenges. Since then, I have been fascinated by the engraving on one of the houses that dates back to the 1400s. The letterforms feel tall and elongated and contain a lot of right angles, as well as square serifs, which are probably a result of the tools used to engrave the sign. What stands out within this sign is the letter e and how it strays from my typical understanding of what an e can look like. There is no curvature, instead it has a stem, almost making it look like a āpā. As well as this, the e has no eye as the crossbar does not join with the rest of the letter.
