How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Again, like many of my other examples, this is cast in iron. However, there aren’t many that use san serif as its typeface. The type is set against the icons that Berwick is know for, the bear and the tree. Looking through the examples that I have taken photos of, the ones that are in cast iron and have colour added to them seem to be the ones of importance. Or could this inclusion demonstrate wealth? The kerning on this example is different for that timeline. The extra spacing alongside the ‘softer’ sans serif font gives a more delicate feel to the sign.
