How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The Palace Pier first opened in 1899 and is an iconic piece of the Brighton landscape. After being renamed “Brighton Pier” in 2000 its original name was returned in 2016. The archway lettering is an adaptation of an 1820s carnival font by Joseph Gillé called Madam. It has been modernised to include reference to the domed rooftop of the Brighton Pavilion, also reflected in the pier buildings. This allows the typeface to echo the Regency heritage of Brighton whilst including the traditional carnival display with sequenced lightbulbs and bright red and yellow colouring, fitting for a seaside resort attraction.
