How does this letter-form communicate its location?
This is a signposting close to a landmark in Southampton, Catchcold Tower. It is a tower that was southward on the west wall of town being used in the early 15th century as a gun tower. This typography is a signpost to talk about the history of this time. It’s white writing on a black background, looks to be metal lettering that was painted over to withstand the weather over time. Also different sized type for the header and the body of the text also being in uppercase for ease of reading. This is a uniform sign design that is across Southampton at all historic points.
