How does this letter-form communicate its location?
This example may look a bit plain, but I think it is important to acknowledge the history of many of these small towns. They primarily developed in the late 1800’s with the gold rush and then feel more or less into obscurity in the early twentieth century. It was not until about the 60’s and 70’s that these areas grew again in popularity as vacation destinations. The Alpine lodge has been around since the 70’s (I could not get an exact date from the person who I spoke to) and has not really been updates since the 90’s. Even so, you get that 70’s feel to the entire building and I think in this sign and typography as well.
