How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Moving into a more modern context, I was drawn to the type of Bombo's which is symbolised by a monochromatic and bold type set against the beautifully colourful shopfront. As an independent cocktail and tapas bar, Bombo's has drawn inspiration from the island of Hawaii and features many unusual interior design features including several key beach themes. The key signage appears to be a designed font as the rough edges and uneven letterforms almost represent the edges of a palm tree or the texture of a coconut. This supports Blackwells' statement that 'signage is a part of the environment,' and adds a further thought process as to whether a sign or type can represent an alternate setting to its situation, for example, Hawaii. Baines also state that '(popular buildings) should announce their presence to us,' therefore enticing us off the street with the bold style signage that Bombo's so peacefully secures.
