How does this letter-form communicate its location?
Attached to what is now a Mexican restaurant, this building used to house what seems to be a coal and coke merchant. We learn from this week's lecture that this is no doubt a ghost sign. This Sans Serif typeface would have been directly painted onto the brick wall with lead paint, this durable material has allowed it to survive. The sign is located on the higher point of Lincoln, which is the oldest, surrounded by 19th-century housing that has been repurposed into restaurants, coffee shops, and artisans. By keeping the building the same and altering its purpose, these businesses have been able to thrive whilst still paying tribute to those who came before.
