How does this letter-form communicate its location?
While staying in Mt. Shasta, I found this to be one of the newer and trendy hotels in the town. Unlike most of the signage here, this was clearly not locally designed and made. As a contemporary twist on the local signage, it did stand out to me. The font itself is serif and made to look older and perhaps a bit western, reflecting the town’s history. I find the “T”s noteworthy with their distinctive slanted down serifs. Another notable feature is the “N” with a relatively high slant in the middle, making it look almost like an “H”. If it weren’t for the hexagon on top with interesting outlines and layered landscape of the scenery, it would be a rather banal sign. It is the juxtaposition of this font and this image together that make this really a branded piece.
