How does this letter-form communicate its location?
17 Mile Drive is known for winding through the neighborhoods of off-the-charts affluent Pebble Beach, but it also runs through the adjacent town of Pacific Grove. There is an incredible variety of architecture in PG, in neighborhoods with properties ranging from tiny 600 square-foot parcels to large lots that are more than an acre. This very unusual, fully spelled-out address number is made of metal, and judging by the rust, the corrosion, and the missing dot over the “i” in “sixty,” it’s most likely original to the house, which was built in 1952. It’s not easy to read from a distance, and it expresses the independent streak and appreciation of the past that many PG citizens are proud of.
