How does this letter-form communicate its location?

These chunky, gothic style roman english letterforms paired with calligraphic chinese characters were the most common vintage signage styles found around the area. Weathering over the years has created discolouration and every letter is mottled with a slightly different shade of greyish brown over the iron material. The inconsistent kerning and displacement of individual letters adds to the human quality and charm of these old signages.
