How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The Cellar Bar is a bar which is below ground. The bar is accessed through a narrow alley which runs along the building of the Arts Centre. The presentation of this typographic example consists of a gold typeface with an off-white drop shadow. Between the gold type and the drop shadow is a keyline which surrounds the type, and blends in with the background colour. The background colour itself is a matte black, which with age has worn into the surroundings of the brickwork which makes up the alley leading down to the bar. This is the only advertisement of the bar's location in Stamford, however the bar is very well known around Stamford. The type is a serif, displace type which has been italicised.
