How does this letter-form communicate its location?
A ghost-sign on what’s now a self-catered accommodation building. It is unclear what it would have stood for, however, due to the high density of air raid activity in the North-East, and nearby war memorials, it could potentially stand for ‘Air Raid Precautions’, set up around the time of the war to protect civilians. It seems to be either hand painted or stencilled and uses a simple serif typeface, giving it an ‘official’ look.
