How does this letter-form communicate its location?

typographic road sign and its aesthetics that show how the towns use to perceived is the older early 1900s street signs. They are all decorated and use a black typography style, almost inspired by the industrial revolution. This one of the best preserved signs I could find, This style of road sign was predominately in Margate old town and Cliftonville high street. This was around times when the towns where more of a popular destination for the more wealthy and trying to keep with the wealthy and rich in history aesthetic they have kept to a very unique sign, decorated with typographic ornaments and a simple style sans-serif typeface. I also really like the contrast between the type, the base and the placement on raw brick buildings really does give the road signs a sense of place. I feel as these road signs have a very London styled look to them from an industrial era whilst trying to add beauty to something so simple.
