How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The masonry lettering depicts the historical precedence of the school in Shrewsbury which opened in 1885 and continues with its provision today. The style of these letterforms appear almost comical with the overt flourishes, more akin to a children’s storybook than a serious, educational institution. This is possibly due to the ‘softening’ of design in Victorian Times, after a successful industrial revolution, that had showcased so many imposing facades in architecture. The scroll-style backdrop to the text is an apt path for the text to follow, with decoration possibly linking to a way in which femininity has been purveyed.
