How does this letter-form communicate its location?

Dari de Lite is an ice cream shop established in 1956 and runs from mid-April through Thanksgiving weekend every year. There is no dining in and everything is served to-go from the kiosk. I have no idea how long the current signage has been there for, but the typeface is similar to that of Harlow, designed in the late 70's. The inspiration behind Harlow was the lettering in Streamline Moderne style of the 1930's and 40's. This fits with the spirit of the city of Windsor and its historic links to industry and proximity to Detroit, which reached its population peak in the 1950’s.
