How does this letter-form communicate its location?

The storefront at Windsor Wine Merchants, in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn is an outstanding relic from the past. Kudos to the owners, who revamped the entire space in 2008, which formerly housed Wedder's Soda Fountain. It's incredible that this has even survived in it's original form of beautiful stained glass and hand laid lettering. Like most carefully preserved signs, this one is best seen in person. Although the word 'Ice Cream' gets crammed into a small space at the end, it doesn't feel heavy-handed, and only adds to the charm. While the touch of art deco inspired neon clashes somewhat with the antique sign, I found the addition to be a tasteful choice as well...not too distracting, while providing a simple and necessary signal for passersby.
