How does this letter-form communicate its location?

Formerly the Alberta College of Art & Design, AUA’s signage itself doesn’t represent the graphic and visual identity of Calgary but its graduates do. Founded in 1926 [4], and quickly approaching its 100th anniversary, the school only recently achieved its University status. Although a good majority of its graduates relocate to other points of the globe, those who stay make up the majority of our city’s graphic design community. As such we help give the character and identity to the businesses, signage and outdoor advertising to our hometown. The AUA logo, designed by alumni graduate, Allison Chambers, is a clean and clever typographical solution.
