How does this letter-form communicate its location?
With 591 locations in NYC alone, Chase Bank seems to be taking control of the entire city. Sadly, new locations often open in place of longtime 'mom and pop' storefronts, after the landlord has increased rent at an absurd rate. Worse yet, many of the current vacancies in Manhattan are due to these landlords holding out, often for years, in hopes of a major corporation taking over the space. Luckily, this example seems to have left the historic building mostly intact, a much preferred improvement on the sleek, modern, faceless structures currently being built in and around Manhattan. The custom Chase font is bold and means business, while the symbol itself, designed in 1961 by Chermayeff & Geismar Associates, ushered in a new era of abstract corporate logos.
