How does this letter-form communicate its location?
The Comedy Cellar, considered to be the most important stand-up comedy venue in the United States, has been in operation since 1982. The lettering is incredibly simple and effective. Lightbulbs inlaid, and immediately surrounding the block letters promise a fun and exciting visit, while even the title itself presents the viewer with exactly what to expect...namely, a comedy show in a dark basement. In recent years, there has been a palpable excitement surrounding this venue, as major comedians tend to drop in unannounced. Seeing the bright bulbs as you descend downward into the cellar only adds to the exhilaration and wonder of the evening!
