How does this letter-form communicate its location?
This sign showcases the name of one of the few local shops there are in my area. Its full name is Granny’s Bazaar and the shop sells stationery, clothes and other basic needs. The shop opened around 2007 and its style from both the outside and the inside is vintage. The sign is hand painted on wood and it suggest that the shop sells what a local bazaar traditionally would sell. After going through the different categories and typefaces, I think the font used in this banner is close to Transitional Serif. This kind of typefaces represent the transition between the old style and the neoclassical designs. This typeface incorporates some characteristics of each. Barakat, N.M. (2017) explains how transitional serif has much sharper serif than the humanist and has also more contrast between thick and thin strokes. This creates a very strong, stylish and dynamic feel which is surely achieved on this banner.
