How does this letter-form communicate its location?
This advert for Sunlight Soap is painted onto the side of a private residence at 10 Albert Street, Bletchley. The original design is estimated to be from between 1893-1902 but was only uncovered in the early 1980s after being hidden for almost a century. With the design being hand painted, the typefaces are inconsistent, but well proportioned. The type is all in capital letters and dominates the side of the building. It is visibly well maintained and looks freshly painted. The design transports you back to Bletchley as a bustling, Victorian town with long terraces and budding industry.
